Care guide

Caring for Begonia maculata

Begonia maculata doesn’t like to dry out so keep its soil consistently moist, but never soggy. Water well when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch.

In general, begonias thrive in higher humidity environments so if your indoor air is dry, consider putting Begonia maculata on a humidity tray or near a humidifier. However, ensure your Begonia maculata has good ventilation and avoid getting its leaves wet to prevent fungal issues. We never recommended misting your indoor begonias.

Begonia maculata prefer consistent temperatures between 18 and 24°C. Avoid placing them near drafts or heating/cooling vents.

Medium Indirect light

Begonia maculata loves bright spaces with medium indirect light. It can also tolerate lower light conditions but should be kept away from direct sunlight to prevent burning.

Moderate watering

Water Begonia maculata when the top half of the soil is dry to your finger. Give Begonia maculata a full soak until water drains out the bottom of the pot.

High humidity

Like most Begonia, Begonia maculata prefers higher humidity of around 60 to 80%. A humidifier may be necessary, otherwise Begonia maculata will be happy in a humidity cabinet or greenhouse. Check out our guide for increasing humidity for your houseplants.

Fertilize Seasonally

Begonia maculata doesn't need much when it comes to fertilization and micronutrients. Give it a boost at the beginning of its growing season with some diluted liquid fertilizer and let it be.
