Care guide

Caring for Anthurium crystallinum

Caring for your Anthurium crystallinum is a rewarding endeavor that can be simplified with a few key steps. Place your Anthurium in bright, indirect light, avoiding direct sun exposure. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, allowing the top inch to dry out between waterings. To enhance humidity, use a humidity tray or place plants near a humidifier. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Prune dead or yellowing leaves and wipe the glossy foliage to maintain its shine.

Medium Indirect light

Anthurium crystallinum loves bright spaces with medium indirect light. It can also tolerate lower light conditions but should be kept away from direct sunlight to prevent burning.

Frequent watering

Give Anthurium crystallinum a full watering when the top 2" of soil is dry to your finger. Anthurium crystallinum likes to be consistently moist but never waterlogged.

High humidity

Like most Anthurium, Anthurium crystallinum prefers higher humidity of around 60 to 80%. A humidifier may be necessary, otherwise Anthurium crystallinum will be happy in a humidity cabinet or greenhouse. Check out our guide for increasing humidity for your houseplants.

Fertilize Every 4-6 weeks

During its active growing season (spring to early fall), fertilize Anthurium crystallinum with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer as instructed. Apply the solution to well-watered soil, avoiding foliage contact. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks, reducing or pausing in winter. Watch for signs of over-fertilization, adjusting the routine if needed.

About the genus

About Anthurium

Anthurium comprises approximately 1000 species of flowering plants, making it the largest genus in the Araceae family (informally known as Aroids). Commonly called "flamingo flower" or "laceleaf," these plants originated from the Americas and can be found from northern Mexico to northern Argentina, as well as some parts of the Caribbean.

Many anthurium species, like other aroids, can be cultivated indoors as houseplants or placed outdoors in mild climates with ample shade. Noteworthy examples are anthurium crystallinum and anthurium clarinervium, both featuring sizeable, soft, dark green leaves with silvery white veining.

Because anthurium can bloom effectively indoors, hybridization has become popular, allowing for many different hybrids to become available.
