Alocasia 'Jacklyn', also referred to as Tandurusa, is an Alocasia variety indigenous to Southeast Asia. Its defining features are the shape and texture of its leaves, which closely resemble the antlers of deer (hence the common ...more name Tandurusa: Tanduk Rusa means "deer horns" in Indonesian). Care guide

Caring for Alocasia 'Jacklyn'

Provide Alocasia 'Jacklyn' with bright, indirect light, but avoid direct sunlight which will cause the leaves to burn.

Alocasia are sensitive to humidity and temperature changes. Regular misting, using a humidity tray, or placing Alocasia 'Jacklyn' in a naturally warm and humid area can be beneficial. Allowing the soil to partially dry out between waterings can help prevent root rot.

When temperatures get too low, Alocasia 'Jacklyn' can enter a dormancy period and lose its leaves. Proper care during this phase involves reducing watering and providing slightly lower temperatures until new growth emerges from the corm.

Propagation of Alocasia 'Jacklyn' can be done through the division of mature plants by separating offshoots with their own root systems, or by harvesting corms in the soil and planting them up separately.

Medium Indirect light

Alocasia 'Jacklyn' loves bright spaces with medium indirect light. It can also tolerate lower light conditions but should be kept away from direct sunlight to prevent burning.

Frequent watering

Give Alocasia 'Jacklyn' a full watering when the top 2" of soil is dry to your finger. Alocasia 'Jacklyn' likes to be consistently moist but never waterlogged.

High humidity

Like most Alocasia, Alocasia 'Jacklyn' prefers higher humidity of around 60 to 80%. A humidifier may be necessary, otherwise Alocasia 'Jacklyn' will be happy in a humidity cabinet or greenhouse. Check out our guide for increasing humidity for your houseplants.

Fertilize Every 4-6 weeks

During its active growing season (spring to early fall), fertilize Alocasia 'Jacklyn' with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer as instructed. Apply the solution to well-watered soil, avoiding foliage contact. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks, reducing or pausing in winter. Watch for signs of over-fertilization, adjusting the routine if needed.
