Caring for Syngonium podophyllum 'Batik'

Syngonium podophyllum 'Batik' can handle humidity between 40-50%, but higher levels are welcomed. Although Syngonium are low-light tolerant, they require medium to high light conditions to keep the vibrant colors and patterns they're known for. Direct sun should be avoided, however, as it will scorch its leaves.

Syngonium grow best in soil enriched with nutrients and organic matter and it should be fertilize regularly with an all-purpose nutrient solution during the growing season. Prune Syngonium podophyllum 'Batik' to keep it short and bushy, otherwise it will climb if given the opportunity.

Syngonium podophyllum 'Batik' can handle low light conditions and can thrive placed in a room with east or west facing windows. Remember that low-light doesn't mean no-light and just because Syngonium podophyllum 'Batik' is shade loving, it doesn't mean that it won't enjoy some medium indirect light now and again.

Propagate by Stem Cutting

Propagate Syngonium podophyllum 'Batik' by stem cutting: take cutting from a healthy stem that includes a node and at least one leaf. Place the cutting in damp substrate or water, ensuring the node is covered. Remove the bottom leaves to prevent any from sitting under the surface. Replace the water weekly and or keep the substrate moist until the plant begins to root.

Originally from Latin America, they have become popular as houseplants due to their attractive foliage and ease of care. Syngonium podophyllum, the most common species, is known for it’s arrow shaped leaves that develop a distinctive trilobe at maturity.

Syngonium can be pruned to maintain a lush and bushy shape, or can be trained to grow up a moss pole or trellis.
