Care guide

Caring for Philodendron tortum

Philodendrons in general are known to be relatively low-maintenance, making them ideal choices for both beginner and experienced indoor gardeners.

Place Philodendron tortum in indirect to moderate light; avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn. Allow the top half of soil to dry before watering; but be cautious of overwatering to prevent root rot. Use a chunky and well-draining potting mix to maintain healthy root conditions. Keep Philodendron tortum within a comfortable indoor temperature range, ideally between 18-29Β°C. Although Philodendron tortum can handle average home humidity levels, it will thrive in high humidity so consider placing it in a bathroom or using a humidity tray. Trim dead or yellowing leaves to encourage new growth and maintain a lush, bushy appearance.

Medium Indirect light

Philodendron tortum loves bright spaces with medium indirect light. It can also tolerate lower light conditions but should be kept away from direct sunlight to prevent burning.

Moderate watering

Water Philodendron tortum when the top half of the soil is dry to your finger. Give Philodendron tortum a full soak until water drains out the bottom of the pot.

High humidity

Like most Philodendron, Philodendron tortum prefers higher humidity of around 60 to 80%. A humidifier may be necessary, otherwise Philodendron tortum will be happy in a humidity cabinet or greenhouse. Check out our guide for increasing humidity for your houseplants.

Fertilize Every 4-6 weeks

During its active growing season (spring to early fall), fertilize Philodendron tortum with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer as instructed. Apply the solution to well-watered soil, avoiding foliage contact. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks, reducing or pausing in winter. Watch for signs of over-fertilization, adjusting the routine if needed.
