Care guide

Caring for Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash'

To care for Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash', provide bright indirect light, maintain temperatures between 18-27Β°C, and allow the top soil to dry between waterings. They thrive in well-draining soil, benefit from higher humidity, and need occasional feeding with diluted fertilizer during the growing season. Prune, provide support for climbing varieties, and watch for pests. Propagation can be done easily through leaf cuttings, although you must allow for good airflow because hoya stem cuttings have a tendency to rot.

Bright indirect light

Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash' likes consistently bright indirect light. Think of placing it near a south-facing window but make sure it never receives direct light which can cause Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash' to burn.

Moderate watering

Water Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash' when the top half of the soil is dry to your finger. Give Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash' a full soak until water drains out the bottom of the pot.

High humidity

Like most Hoya, Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash' prefers higher humidity of around 60 to 80%. A humidifier may be necessary, otherwise Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash' will be happy in a humidity cabinet or greenhouse. Check out our guide for increasing humidity for your houseplants.

Fertilize Every 4-6 weeks

During its active growing season (spring to early fall), fertilize Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash' with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer as instructed. Apply the solution to well-watered soil, avoiding foliage contact. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks, reducing or pausing in winter. Watch for signs of over-fertilization, adjusting the routine if needed.

Propagate by Stem Cutting

Propagate Hoya pubicalyx 'Splash' by stem cutting: take cutting from a healthy stem that includes a node and at least one leaf. Place the cutting in damp substrate or water, ensuring the node is covered. Remove the bottom leaves to prevent any from sitting under the surface. Replace the water weekly and or keep the substrate moist until the plant begins to root.

About the genus

About Hoya

The genus "Hoya" is a group of around 200 to 300 species of tropical climbing plants native to Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands. They were first described by botanist Robert Brown in the early 19th century. The name "Hoya" is in honor of Thomas Hoy, a botanist who worked on the collection of plant specimens in India.

Hoyas are prized for their ornamental value and unique characteristics. Their thick, waxy leaves help them retain water in their natural habitat, making them somewhat drought-resistant. They are epiphytic, which means they often grow on other plants, trees, or rocky surfaces in the wild.

Hoyas are favored by plant enthusiasts for their ease of care, distinctive foliage, and charming flowers. They are often grown as houseplants in containers or hanging baskets and are appreciated for their ability to thrive in indoor environments with proper care.
